I am asking a very easy question.

In R&S v5 workbook Physical Gigabit ethernet Ports are marked as 1.13, 1.16, 1.161 etc.

Why not 1/1, 1/2, etc

Can anybody explain this.

discard route created in OSPF ABR

Hi everyone!!

little question abuot discard route generation on OSPF ABR...

we know that this discard route is creatd in routing table for example qhen we summarize by means of the area-range command: the summary pointing to the NULL interface is put in the routing tasble of the ABR

the question is: is this discard route even created when we configure a stub area in the ABR (default discard) or not? I think not, but I'm not sure....

as you know, this behiaviour is important when another fedautl type 5 is coming from the backbone! (the discard route would kill as a result of the distance)

thanks in advance to anyone who will reply!!

Lab configuration section: time budget for job aid creation

$

Hi guys,

Lab date is coming up in a few days and I could really use some input on this topic.

In my simulations job-aid creation is taking between 35-40 minutes from start to finish.  That seems like a large chunk of time out of 6 hours.  It's concerning to me.

I'm Looking for ways to speed it up without cutting corners.   It's the building of the task list that comes to the fore.  How to make it faster.

What I've been doing in my simulations is prior to doing any configuring:

1.  Skim through the workbook, and build a tracking table with a list of tasks and colums for completion status, wether it's core connectivity or not, and the points.  I put an + mark next to non-core tasks that look like like quick points and a - mark for tasks that look like time sinks so I can prioritize after building the core.

2.  redraw the layer 3 diagram.

3.  Draw up the l2 diagram.

When working through the workbook tasks, this seems to be a great setup.  But as mentioned it's taking between 35-40m, and that strikes me as *a lot*.

questions regarding creating the task tracking sheet:

a) I've been drawing out the lines.  do they provide ruled paper?  If not can I bring some in?

b) is there an optimal way to scan through the task list and break it down into a table?  I've been taking two passes, one to get the task numbers written down so I have my rows, then going back and reading the tasks to fill in colums.  Is there a better way?

Any feedback on this would be appreciated.  Thanks.

OTV lab INE rack rental issue

Hi guys,

I'm doing the OTV lab on INE rack 3 right now.

I'm having an issue i hope you can explain to me.

I ahve configured everthing according as described in the workbook. multicast adjacency not unicast adjacancy.

I have an ping with -t running on both PC's.

It takes aroung 4 minutes from i does a no shut on the overlay interfaces in the N7Ks until i get an successful ping reply.

I think it is to long to be acceptable, is it like this in the "real" world aswell or is this having to do with the setup in the lab?

Regards.

Some wrong connections at DC racks.

Sometime I met some wrong connections at DC racks. That really brothered me during lab time.

I will make a list here, and fulfill that list each time when I notice new wrong connections.

1,  Emulex CNA Server

NICs connect to N2Ks, the NIC lables are wrong.

The NIC which named 'TO N2K1 Port 1' connect to n2k2 port 1

The NIC which named 'To N2K2 Port 1' connect to n2k1 port 1

How to share DC rack

My friend and I are both studying for CCIE Data Center track.  We have access to a complete rack to practice (feel lucky).  But we are in  different phases of studying and trying to figure out a way to share the hardware without interfering with each other.  If anyone had done this before, please share your method.  We are both using INE workbook.  Thanks all.

Trunk Mode on FC ports (MDS and UCS)

$

0

What is the 'proper' configuration for MDS interfaces facing the UCS?  The INE guide instructs us on how to enable VSAN trunking on an FI, which results in the following config change:

UCS-Lab-A(nxos)# sh run int fc1/31

interface fc1/31
 switchport mode NP
 switchport trunk mode on
 no shutdown

On the upstream MDS, the default F-port configuration has trunking enabled (so it won't appear after configuration), so these seem to be a good match for each other:

MDS-1(config-if)# switchport trunk mode on
MDS-1(config-if)# sh run int fc1/4

interface fc1/4
  switchport mode F
  switchport description FI-A fc1/31
  no shutdown
  (trunking enabled implicitly)

So here are my questions:
  1. What if I don't enable trunking on the FI?  I labbed this and all seems to work.
  2. Is trunking even occuring on this link?  The 'show interface' command only shows F and NP modes, never TF or TNP modes.
  3. Is there a place in UCSM to enable other VSANs on an interface?  It only allows me to select one vsan per uplink, so I'm not sure whether a TNP configuration is even supported.

Thanks!
