I'm currently on site this week doing a UCS install, and I must admit, I've come across something which has just been taken for granted in the past. It's the IP Pool for ext-mgmt (i.e. the KVM IP address pool for service profiles).
I've created the OU and Locale for the customer and tied them together, and configured all the pools etc, and built the service profiles, and associated them, and then comes the slightly strange bit.
Within the newly created OU, I created an IP Pool called 'ext-mgmt', this pool was configured with a bunch of addresses for the KVM's (in the same subnet as the FI addresses). Now, each service profile picked up an address from this pool, and when I look at the pool after my service profiles have been created, I see a bunch of addresses are in use.
However, when I try to launch the KVM for one of the service profiles, I just get told that no IP address has been assigned, would I like to assign one???
The only way I could get this to work, was to remove the IP Pool and re-create it, but this time within the root OU and not the specific OU for that customer.
Is this default behaviour for UCS? I guess it makes sense that it might be, in the fact that the IP Pool has to be in the same L2 subnet as the FI management addresses...
Thanks
