Hi Guys,
I am looking to deploy 2 x UCS B-Series Chassis with Fabric Interconnect (6248UP) using standard IOS switches as the upstream switches and using the Cisco MDS 9148 as the FC switches doing all the zoning, etc.
I normally do this with the Nexus 5Ks acting as the upstream network switch and FCoE between the FIs and the Nexus switch. But on this occasion, the MDS has been preferred.
I would like to be sure of the following if someone can be kind enough to enlighten me.
- FI connections to Standard IOS switch = Uplink port on FI and use port-channel, trunking all necessary VLANs.
- FI connections to MDS FC switch = FCoE Uplink port or FCoE storage port? I can't see anything directly for FC port as it seems I will be using an FC SFP to connect the FI to the MDS? Right?
- MDS1 Ports to FI-1 Ports - FC Trunking carrying say VSAN 101
- MDS2 Ports to FI-2 Ports - FC Trunking carrying say VSAN 102, right?
- What should the switchport mode be between the MDS and FI port? F port or FL ports?
- Is NPIV required to be enabled on the MDS? Or is this o by default?
I guess on the MDS there is no way to configure int VFC as it all native FC? So just wondering how the connections from the FI to the MDS should be, as I expect it to be native FC but can't see this as an option on the UCS Emulator?
I just want to know what I need to watch out for when setting the MDS switch up connecting to the FI for SAN zoning. Any reference to a blog etc. will be highly appreciated.
Thanks for your help.
