EIGRP metric at redistribute static

Hi All,

In Section 5.28:

When redistributing static into EIGRP or between EIGRP processes, metrics are

automatically derived from the source prefix. For all other redistribution, the metric

must be manually set on the redistribute statement, under a route-map, or from the

default metric.

i. what does this mean - "automatically derived from the source prefix"?

ii. and actually why are we configuring default metrics in the example, if they are auto derived?
