VMNIC vs VNIC vs I/O module southbound ports

Hi all,

As a junior of virtualization and ucs, I have some questions about VMNIC , VNIC and I/O module southbound ports (connected to blades).

1. In terms of limitation of VNIC in UCS, does it decided by the type of mezzanine card that attached to the blade? Like Cisco's VIC could support up to 256 VNICs as opposed to Emulex card could support 2 VNICs only ?

2. If I have allocated 6 VNICs for a specific blade that the ESXi is located, does that mean I could add up to 6 VMNICs on this ESXi host for upstream links through vclient ?

3. For example , the number of I/O module southbound ports is 32, what if I have created more than 32 VNICs totally amongst all Cisco VICs of blades as it is supported from each VIC point of view ?

4. How could VNICs associate with the I/O module southbound ports ? It is done automatically once we create it or it could be done manually like static pinning ?

Thanks a lot!

JF
