VRF import and export maps

Evening all

I am doing some RS workbooks to cover MPLS, BGP etc in some more detail. For anyone who has them or has used them I was doing 14.5 MP-BGP Prefix Filtering.  The task asks you to create loopback 101 in VPN_A on router X and loopback 102 in VPN_B on router Y.  You need to have reachability between the two PEs loopbacks but loopback 101 must not be in router Ys VPN_A table and vice versa.

The topology is then central services type VPN.  I used import/export maps cos you need to match a specific prefix of the loopbacks to export with its unique RT and blanket add a RT for everything else. I did this and the prefixes we exported in to MP-BGP locally with the correct RT, in my case I used 500:1 for VPN_A to export from router X and 600:1 to export from router Y, obviously importing the reverse on the other side of the P router.

I have been looking at this for 1.5 hours now certain I had my config correct but I didn't see the prefixes on the remote PE.  When I debugged bgp vpnv4 uni updates I saw the prefixes were being denied with the usual extended community not supported messages even though the RT was set correctly.  Basically I had enough so I rebooted the routers (both 1841s from RS racks) and low and behold once they come back up it works.

Has anyone come across this behavour before and have an explanation?  I know it's not from the SP workbook or on SP racks but it is relevant to the SP track.  I'd rather not come across this in the lab and not know if I was doing something wrong...or if the 1841 code is just buggy.

Cheers
