what is the difference between an Authoritative DNS Server and a DNS server?

Thankyou for any clarification.

<edit> ok found this answer that makes sense but need a check on IEOC to make sure its correct

An authoritative name server is a server that has authority over a name space.  For example, a DNS server may have a zone called "domain.com".  When that server answers a query for a host in the domain.com domain, it is authoritative for that answer.  Since it owns the zone, it responds by saying "I am the owner, this is the answer".  When a name server receives a query for a host name, but it does not host the zone, the DNS server will communicate with other DNS servers to find the answer.  When it receives an answer, it will respond to the client who requested it, but in this case, it is not authoritative for the answer.  It tells the client, "Here is the answer you are looking for, but I am not authoritative for it, I got the answer from another DNS server"
