Understanding of the Bandwidth from ISP

Dear Experts,

I am very new to this Forum and this is my first post.

Let's suppose I am a customer and I asked my ISP for a 10 Mbps of Bandwisth. Does this mean that I will get 10 Mbps uplink & 10 Mbps downlink? or Does it mean that I will only get 5 Mbps uplink & 5 Mbps downlink?

I hope I am able to make my question understand?

I will be greatful if someone can shed some light on this concept and explain in detail?
