Nexus 1000v Install Problems

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some advice/support with Nexus 1000v installation on VMware.

I have a bare metal install of ESXi 5.5 (hostname ESX1).

On top of this I have two "nested" ESXi hosts (hostnames ESX2 and ESX3).

On ESX1 I have installed the vCenter Server Appliance to manage ESX2 and ESX3.

I have then used the Nexus 1000v installer to deploy VSMs on ESX1.

So at this point I have:

ESX1 (bare metal host)
 - VCSA (vCenter Server Appliance)
 - N1000v-1 (Virtual Supervisor Module Active)
 - N1000v-2 (Virtual Supervisor Module Standby)
 - ESX2 (Nested host 1)
   - XP1 (Test VM on nested host 1)
 - ESX3 (Nested host 2)
   - XP2 (Test VM on nested host 2)

So far so good but now I hit a problem. The guide I have been following (https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/docs/DOC-17233) uses the VMware Update Manager to deploy the VEMs to the nested hosts. Unfortunately vCenter Server Appliance does not support VUM.

I then followed the instructions for the Nexus 1000v manual install (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_0/install/vem/guide/vem_install_n1000v.html#wp234816). It seemed to work but now I'm stuck!

How do I "register" (if that's the right term?) the VEMs with the VSM? I'm totally lost. Do I need to deploy a VMware Distributed Switch first to ESX2 and ESX3?

Any advice on how I can get Nexus 1000v working with my setup would be great.

Thanks
